Does a vehicle with a salvage title qualify for the cars, cash for clunkers program?
Question by stapeler: Does a vehicle with a salvage title qualify for the cars, cash for clunkers program?
I have a rebuilt vehicle with a salvage title. Apparently there is debate over whether or not a salvaged vehicle qualifies.
The official information states this:
“Clear” title. This means the title must be free of any liens or other encumbrances. If you have liens, you need to get these cleared before going to the dealer. This may include evidence on the face of the title showing no lien; that the title has been cleared (signed and stamped accordingly), or with an attached lien release from the lien holder.

A salvage title should not be a problem. Those cars are on the road and can be licensed and driven. The title just needs to prove you own the car.

Dear Initiator of Adorably-Named Government Programs,
Thank you for providing us with hilarious backgrounds for our snapshots- it’s nice to see my tax dollars finally being used for something that I can benefit from! I guess you got my letters about how I was tired of wars, healthcare, and immigration always being at the top of the list, and really thought you should do something about the state of Photography in relation to Urban Exploration. Thank you for taking my ideas into consideration!
If you introduce subsequent programs with cute names, please provide us with an equally interesting location to explore and photograph!
Sincerely,
Your Beloved Citizen

I decided to do some research on what was originally supposed to happen to the cars collected in CFC. I stumbled across an article from TIME with this quote:
When the resale period is up, any leftover parts must be destroyed, and the government is notified that the car is gone for good.

Apparently the resale period is 180 days…from my calculation 224 days had passed from the END of CFC until the day these photos were taken.
So I’m wondering why these cars are still, 224 days later, sitting in a baseball field. Genuine backlog or laziness?
I found another article on our local news site that stated that Indy Parks is receiving ,000 a month to house the cars. I’d say the salvage company is getting a HUGE deal, especially considering the amount of money it would take to clean this up and make it safe to use again…can you even imagine the environmental affect this would have? (Then again, it’s in a run-down part of town…those areas normally seem to get the environmental short end of the stick, so who would notice that, right?)

That article was posted November 27, 2009- 128 days prior to our trip to the stadium…SURELY that was enough time to start moving some of the cars out…and given the photos that were included in the article, it actually appears as though cars have been added since then.
Again, genuine backlog, or laziness?
I understand that the local park system needs revenue, but potentially ruining park land for a ridiculously small amount of money just doesn’t seem worth it. It really makes me wonder who was doing the negotiating for the park system. Oh, wait, that’s right…Indy Parks is desperate for money…so maybe they had an intern show up to that meeting or something?

Well – When I bought my Cobalt, I had the issue, selling the Neon, made a deal with my dad (who’s a better car guy than I) to sell him the car for 0, and he could sell it for whatever he wanted, help them out with some cash – so today he sold it! So I got my cut waiting for me on the kitchen table!
