I don’t know about junk yards but I know people who have guard dogs for their homes. Like trained and certified guard dogs not just aggresive breeds either.
Yes, definitely.
Er yes…still see them today either chained or in a large fenced area ‘guarding’ what ever precious items (usually looks like trash to anyone else) the Owner has old cars or a trailer house.
Rotties, German Shepherds are favourites for this or Doberman.
Poor dogs…
Whatever people want guarded. You’ll see guard dogs there.
yep theres a junkyard in my town thats got 14 well trained german shepherds.
Hello Kiton
I have seen this in real life. Here, it seems though, that guard dogs are being used more for protection of those who are doing something wrong. we had a neighbor who raised a dog to be a mean one – a guard dog they admit – only to find that they were using the dog as a “protection” for the uncle who sold drugs from inside the home.
We also have a few junk yards in our county and I would say that only one has a guard dog and he really isnt a “guard” dog as he’s a tender hearted lover who would rather lick you to death than take a bite out of you.
LOL
They are normally strays where the people take them into sheltar there. Not specifically guard dogs and they really bite!
It’s a common practice. All you have to do is go to a yard after dark and rattle the fence. Not only junk yards, either. The lower end of the street next to mine has a couple of auto body repair shops, a couple of truck yards, a pallet yard, a tint shop and several other businesses, and all of them have dogs. My ex’s dad had several GSDs in his machine shop. Even the feed mill where I buy my horse feed has a couple.
Most of the time you don’t see them during the day because they keep them in smaller kennels out of sight, and so they can open the drive through gate for customers. But at close they shut the big gates to the street and let the dogs roam the yards. Not all of them are Pits or Dobermans, a lot are just mixes with some size.
Yep, in junkyards & in all kinds of businesses.
Yes the do though the are typically large mixed breeds rather than the purebreds you see in the movies at least in my area. Most aren’t true guard dogs just poorly socialized dog
Yeah there is one not too far from where I live and it is guarded by three German Shepherds. On the other hand there is also another one close to where I live and it was guarded by four Basset Hounds…lol. I thought it was funny because I’m not too sure how well of ‘guarding’ a Basset is going to do…they would probably lick the intruder to death more than anything!
